Defence Headquarters, 7 APR 26 (RBDF): Lieutenant Myran Sands  recently returned from the People’s Republic of China where he participated in the “Training Course for Maritime Law Enforcement Agencies of Latin American Countries” at the Chinese Coast Guard Academy in Ningbo, China, March 02, 2026 to March 31, 2026. Lieutenant Myran Sands joined officers from Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Chile, Cuba, Ecuador, Guyana and Venezuela. 

The course included classes, seminars and cultural trips that introduced participants to Chinese culture, history and traditions. The comprehensive modules focused on Chinese Language Study; Chinese Calligraphy; Chinese National Conditions & Military Overview; Introduction to Coast Guard Law of the PRC; Observing Case Investigation Laboratory and Forensic Technology Laboratory; Application of the UNCLOS in Maritime Law Enforcement; Introduction to Maritime Anti- Smuggling Laws and Regulations; Introduction to China’s Law Enforcement; Maritime Public Security Administration; Maritime Forensic Technology; Maritime Crime Investigation; Marine Administrative Law Enforcement; and Xi Jinping’s Thought on the Rule of Law. There were also fieldtrips to museums and historical sites.  

The more popular topics of discussion were: Sea Area Characteristics and Maritime Law Enforcement; Maritime Smuggling; International Cooperation on Maritime Law Enforcement and Human Trafficking, all focusing on the Caribbean and Latin American countries.  

The “Training Course for Maritime Law Enforcement Agencies of Latin American Countries” at the Chinese Coast Guard Academy in Ningbo, China, and others, emphasize the importance of continued professional development through the partnership and bilateral ties between The Bahamas and the People’s Republic of China.

As such, we maintain that these academic and technical programmes, provide invaluable training and exposure to global defence practices, contributing to the RBDF’s strategic mission to remain a professional, adaptable, and capable maritime Force.
