Mr. Kendrick Rolle, Deputy Chairman of the National Commission for Persons with Disabilities and a leading advocate for disability rights, recently visited Commander Defence Force, Commodore Raymond King, at Defence Headquarters. The purpose of the visit was to explore initiatives aimed at improving resources for the disabled community, with a particular focus on accessible transportation.
During the meeting, Mr. Rolle proposed the creation of public-private partnerships to support sustainable transportation solutions. He explained that these partnerships would help maintain vehicles and develop a transportation program offering affordable services to persons with disabilities at a fraction of the cost typically charged by private providers. “This initiative represents a foundational program designed to be both sustainable and beneficial for the long-term future of the disability community,” Mr. Rolle stated.
Mr. Rolle highlighted his dedication to disability advocacy, which began with his involvement in the Urban Renewal Program and continued as Executive Director of the Coalition of Advocates for Disability Awareness and Services. His collaboration with the Royal Bahamas Defence Force (RBDF) includes past projects like the White Cane Initiative in 2020 and a 2022 disability advocacy project in Eleuthera, both of which created positive engagement for more than 20 participants.
Under the leadership of Commodore Raymond E. King, the RBDF remains committed to being a responsible corporate citizen. Through a variety of outreach initiatives, the organization works to strengthen community ties, positively impact lives, and contribute to the growth of vibrant, inclusive communities.
