The Royal Bahamas Defence Force (RBDF) welcomed a unique opportunity to engage with the public during the Golden Isles Constituency Back to School Career Fair at Dignity Gardens Community Park on August 24, 2024. Led by Band Major Able Seaman D’quan Smith, the exciting performance displayed the band’s versatility across various musical genres and was met with enthusiastic applause, drawing in attendees from the constituency.
This display to the public by the RBDF Band highlighted the Defence Force’s commitment to community engagement, a core aspect of its mandate. Given the RBDF’s primary responsibilities, the public rarely sees most marines, as their duties often keep them on the frontlines of national security. However, the band and events like this provide a valuable platform for the Defence Force to connect with communities and demonstrate its dedication beyond military operations.
The Back to School Career Fair was a prime example of this commitment. Organizations such as Colina and BAMSI also attended supporting the effort. Alongside the music, children enjoyed fun foods and treats with the event culminating with the distribution of school bags and supplies, ensuring the students are well-prepared for the upcoming school year.
Under the command of Commodore Raymond King, through events like these, the RBDF reaffirms its role not only as the protector of the nation’s borders but also as a member of the Bahamian community, dedicated to uplifting and inspiring the next generation.
