RBDF BMCCU & USS GRAVELY SAILORS CONDUCT COMMUNITY SERVICE PROJECT AT CHILDREN’S EMERGENCY HOSTEL

In a demonstration of international partnership and community spirit, the Royal Bahamas Defence Force (RBDF) Base Civil Construction and Maintenance Unit (BMCCU), in collaboration with 11 sailors from the USS Gravely (DDG 107), carried out a successful community service initiative at the Children’s Emergency Hostel located on McKinney Avenue on Saturday, 31 May 2025.

The project saw significant improvements made to the hostel’s outdoor facilities. The efforts included the replacement of weathered shingles and a fresh coat of paint applied to the gazebo located on the hostel grounds. In addition, several benches were refurbished — old wooden panels were replaced, and all benches received new coats of paint, giving the children a more welcoming and safe environment to enjoy.

The building materials used for these upgrades were generously donated by the crew of the USS Gravely, further exemplifying the spirit of goodwill and cooperation between the United States Navy and The Bahamas.

This impactful initiative was led by Captain Charlie McCurdy and Commander Victor Lange of the United States Embassy. On the RBDF side, operational coordination was spearheaded by Senior Lieutenant Anton Stubbs of the BMCCU, whose leadership and logistical support were key to the mission’s success.

The RBDF remains committed to community development and regional partnerships that foster meaningful engagement and support for vulnerable populations across The Bahamas.
