 In keeping with the Commander Defence Force, Commodore Raymond King’s intent of keeping the memories of the fallen marines who gave their lives unselfishly, while guarding and protecting our nation, Officers and Marines of the Royal Bahamas Defence Force Veterans Office attended a church service on 16th May 2021.

Led by the Deputy Commander Defence Force, Captain Shonedel Pinder, the RBDF personnel attended the remembrance service at the Parish of St. Gregory The Great, Carmichael Road.  Reverend Canon S. Sebastian Campbell, leader of the church brought a message of thankfulness for the brave crew of the ill-fated Her Majesty’s Bahamian Ship FLAMINGO. He noted that in tribute to the event which transpired on May 10th, 1980, more can be done to solidify the memories and sacrifice of the men. He said that they will always be national heroes to the country.

Captain Shonedel Pinder brought greetings on behalf of the Commander Defence Force, Commodore Dr. Raymond King. In thanking Reverend Canon Campbell for the invitation, he gave a brief account of the events that occurred forty-one years ago.

He also reminded those in attendance that the Royal Bahamas Defence Force remains vigilant, as the Officers and Marines continue to guard and protect the territorial waters of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas.
