The Royal Bahamas Defence Force (RBDF) Engineering Department recently demonstrated its commitment to community outreach by making a donation to The Centre for the Deaf on October 4, 2024. Led by Senior Commander Granville Adderley, the RBDF team was warmly welcomed by the school’s principal, Mrs. Michaela Sands Smith.

During their visit, the RBDF members were given a comprehensive tour of the facility, which accommodates students from grades 1 through 12. The tour highlighted the classrooms, playground, kitchen, and even computer labs where students work on assignments and projects using the internet. The school offers a wide range of subjects, including Arts and Crafts, taught by Ms. Janice Pinder, a former student who lost her hearing due to meningitis at age three. Now, as a teacher, Ms. Pinder dedicates her time to help students facing challenges similar to her own.

At the end of the tour, Senior Commander Adderley presented the donation to Mrs. Smith, and the visit concluded with a prayer for the school’s continued success, with members of the RBDF joining in solidarity.

This donation not only provides valuable resources for the school but also highlights the RBDF’s dedication to fostering positive change within the community under the leadership of Commodore Raymond E. King. Through such initiatives, the Defence Force continues to uphold its role as a responsible corporate citizen, committed to making a meaningful impact.
