The Commander of the Royal Bahamas Defence Force (RBDF), Commodore Raymond King, conducted a three-day visit to Grand Bahama from November 23-25, 2024, to assess operational readiness, inspect critical facilities, and engage with personnel and stakeholders on that island.
The visit began with a tour of Carnival’s Cruise Port, highlighting its strategic potential, followed by an inspection of the Mediterranean Building, proposed as the site for the RBDF’s new Grand Bahama Headquarters. Commodore King also conducted detailed evaluations of key facilities, including the RBDF compound and base, the Maritime Quarters, and the Police Marine Unit, with specific focus on the Safe Boats essential to maritime operations.
Emphasizing the welfare of RBDF marines, the Commander hosted an informal dinner to foster camaraderie and address concerns directly. His final day included a courtesy call on the Minister for Grand Bahama and a breakfast meeting with Heads of Departments (HODs) to discuss regional priorities and administrative goals.
This visit underscores the Defence Force’s commitment to enhancing its presence, fostering engagement, and ensuring the well-being of its personnel while maintaining readiness to address national security needs.
