The Royal Bahamas Defence Force hosted its annual Christmas Carol Service and Tree Lighting Ceremony on Friday, December 20, 2024, at HMBS Coral Harbour. Celebrated under the theme “The Light of the World,” the event emphasized the transformative power of faith and the true essence of the Christmas season.
Officers, enlisted personnel, and special guests came together for an evening of reflection, worship, and celebration. The gathering featured the heartfelt singing of the Christmas hymn “Angels We Have Heard on High,” which set a reverent tone. Scripture readings from Luke 2:10 underscored the joy and hope brought by the birth of Christ, while special musical performances enriched the festive and uplifting atmosphere.
In his address, Commander Defence Force, Commodore Raymond King reflected on the season’s significance, commending the RBDF for its unwavering dedication and service. He acknowledged the men and women of the Defence Force who continue to serve, both within The Bahamas and abroad, including those currently deployed in Haiti, where their efforts bring much-needed hope and security.
The Minister of National Security, the Honorable Wayne Munroe K.C., delivered remarks, emphasizing the significance of Advent. He highlighted the journey through hope, peace, joy, and love in the lead-up to Christmas Day. Attendees were reminded that the Christmas season extends through the 12 days leading up to the Feast of Epiphany.
A highlight of the evening was the lighting of the Christmas tree a powerful symbol of Christ’s light triumphing over darkness. This symbolic act served as a reminder of the RBDF’s mission to bring light, hope, and peace to the communities it serves and protects.
Commander King encouraged attendees to keep deployed personnel in their prayers, recognizing the sacrifices of those serving away from their families during the holidays. Reflecting on the Advent season and the 12 days of Christmas, he reminded everyone of the importance of faith, unity, and hope as the RBDF continues its journey of modernization and transformation.
The evening concluded with warm wishes for a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year. Attendees departed inspired by the event’s message of light and hope, carrying the spirit of the season into their lives and duties.
