The Royal Bahamas Defence Force (RBDF) recently welcomed Edukarting, an esteemed club under the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA), for a two-day event at HMBS Coral Harbour on November 7-8, 2024.
The event featured a symposium, go-kart racing, and virtual reality (VR) racing, providing a dynamic experience that combined education with hands-on activities. Susan Schauff, Vice President of the Bahamas Motor Sports Association, led the Edukarting delegation, which aimed to promote road safety awareness and foster camaraderie among marines.
The event commenced with an informative symposium held at the HMBS Coral Harbour Training Auditorium, where marines received critical insights into road safety from members of the Royal Bahamas Police Force Road Traffic Department. Assistant Superintendent Demetria Capron and her team delivered impactful presentations covering the importance of vehicle licensing and registration. In a compelling demonstration, marines had the opportunity to experience simulated impairment through specialized goggles, highlighting the dangers associated with driving under the influence.
The action moved to the HMBS Parade Grounds, transformed into a go-kart racing track where marines competed in friendly, spirited races. Marine Seaman Trevon Brown emerged victorious, claiming first place, while Marine Seaman Aaron Sands took a close second. The event fostered healthy competition and strengthened bonds among participants, reinforcing teamwork and mutual respect within the ranks.
In addition to the live racing, a VR racing machine was set up in the Training Auditorium foyer, allowing marines to test their skills in a virtual racing environment. This innovative feature was widely enjoyed and provided a unique hands-on experience that further emphasized the significance of road safety practices.
Captain Coral Harbour, Glenn McPhee, and Base Executive Officer, Origin Delevaux, were in attendance to support the event and acknowledge the valuable learning and team-building opportunities it provided.
Under the leadership of Commander Defence Force, Commodore Raymond E. King, the Royal Bahamas Defence Force is committed to promoting workforce engagement with emphasis on the delegation of authority to appropriate levels, while upholding principles of accountability, authority, and workforce empowerment. By actively involving service members, we seek to foster shared responsibility in accomplishing the mission of the Defence Force. Through this approach, we aim to create a professional and collaborative environment that harnesses the full potential of our dedicated personnel.
