The Royal Bahamas Defence Force (RBDF) proudly commends Marine Seaman Calvin Brown, whose swift and selfless actions in aiding an injured civilian on the afternoon of February 13 exemplified the highest standards of duty and underscored the core values of the RBDF.

At approximately 1:45 p.m., while enroute to Defence Headquarters, Marine Seaman Brown observed an elderly woman, later identified as Mrs. Edna Tinubu, in visible distress near the Bethel Highway roundabout. She had narrowly avoided a collision and sustained a deep laceration to her right leg. Without hesitation, Brown sprang into action, drawing upon his military training to provide immediate assistance.

Assessing the severity of the injury, he swiftly administered first aid, using available materials to fashion a makeshift tourniquet to control the bleeding. While tending to her wounds, he maintained a calm and reassuring presence, ensuring Mrs. Tinubu remained comfortable. Demonstrating both professionalism and respect for her dignity, he advised onlookers to refrain from recording the incident, focusing solely on stabilizing her condition.

Understanding the urgency of the situation, Brown promptly contacted emergency services, relaying critical information and providing real-time updates to EMS responders, who guided him over the phone until their arrival. Upon the arrival of medical personnel, Brown continued to assist and accompanied her to Princess Margaret Hospital.

His decisive actions and composure under pressure did not go unnoticed. Upon resolution of the situation, Marine Seaman Brown was commended by his divisional head for his quick thinking, exceptional leadership, and unwavering dedication to duty.

Reflecting on the incident, Brown humbly stated, “I am grateful for the opportunity to have provided assistance during the incident.” He credited his military training as the foundation for his quick response and effectiveness, reaffirming his commitment to service and helping those in need. Marine Seaman Brown enlisted in the Royal Bahamas Defence Force on October 16, 2021, as part of New Entry 58/Woman Entry 27. He currently serves in the RBDF Protocol section.

The Royal Bahamas Defence Force takes immense pride in the exemplary actions of its personnel.
