A routine day turned into a moment of swift heroism when Able Seaman Raynold Culmer of the Royal Bahamas Defence Force displayed exceptional bravery and quick thinking during a critical incident on November 12, 2024.
While conducting an off-duty run near the Golden Gates Shopping Plaza, Able Seaman Culmer and fellow marines responded to a serious traffic accident in which an elderly woman had been struck by a vehicle. Without hesitation, he and his shipmates rushed to her aid, assessing the severity of her injuries and ensuring she received immediate care.
Demonstrating commendable composure and professionalism, Able Seaman Culmer remained at the victim’s side while the situation escalated. As the driver responsible for the accident fled the scene at high speed, one of his fellow marines initiated a pursuit to prevent his escape. Meanwhile, Able Seaman Culmer continued to provide critical assistance, gathering key information for authorities and maintaining order at the scene.
His actions did not stop there. After the suspect was apprehended and handed over to law enforcement, Able Seaman Culmer took the initiative to obtain the injured woman’s contact details, ensuring that proper follow-ups could be conducted regarding her condition. In an unexpected turn, it was later discovered that the victim was a relative of a colleague, making the act of service even more meaningful.
Able Seaman Culmer’s decisive response, commitment to duty, and compassion in the face of adversity reflect the highest values of the Royal Bahamas Defence Force. His selflessness and dedication serve as a shining example for his peers, and his actions bring great credit to both himself and the organization
