On July 8, 2024, Marines from the Airwing Department of the Royal Bahamas Defence Force were awarded certificates for successfully completing a two-week Aviation Maintenance Training Course held at the Airwing Base Office.

This course marks a significant milestone in the Marines’ journey toward becoming Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) certified technicians. Over the two weeks, participants covered a range of essential topics, including aviation technician regulations, mechanic privileges, piston and turbine engine familiarization, aircraft systems, and maintenance publications.

The four candidates—Able Mechanic Elvis Bullard, Able Mechanic Rex Smith, Able Mechanic Stephen Cooper, and Woman Marine Shukendra Meadows—took their first steps as aviation apprentices and are now better equipped to assist in maintaining RBDF aircrafts. Over the next eighteen months, they will continue with on-the-job training, which will prepare them to pursue their FAA licenses.

The course was directed by Lieutenant George Lightfoot, Airwing Maintenance Officer, with assistance from Chief Petty Officer Andrew Adderley, Maintenance Chief; Leading Mechanic Glen Bullard; and Able Mechanic Victor Boykins as course instructors.

Under the leadership of Commander Defence Force, Commodore Raymond E. King, the Royal Bahamas Defence Force is committed to transforming the quality and capabilities of its personnel. This dedication is rooted in a pursuit of excellence in leadership, demonstrated through professionalism. We strive to cultivate a High-Performance Workforce focused on Performance Excellence, fostering an inclusive working environment that empowers our personnel.
