The Royal Bahamas Defence Force (RBDF) joined the nation in honoring the life and legacy of His Grace, the Most Reverend Drexel Wellington Gomez, former Archbishop and Primate of the Province of the West Indies and Bishop of The Bahamas and Turks and Caicos Islands, who passed away on 14 October 2025 at age 88.
Archbishop Gomez was remembered for his unwavering faith, visionary leadership, and lifelong commitment to the unity and mission of the Church. His service to God and country left an enduring mark on the Anglican Communion and the wider Bahamian community.
Commander Defence Force, Commodore Floyd Moxey, paid his respects during the Lie-in-State on 5 November at St. Agnes Anglican Church, where he participated in the official book signing, conveyed condolences to the Gomez family, and reflected on the late Archbishop’s contributions to both the spiritual and social fabric of the nation.
On 6 November, Commodore Moxey also attended the State-Recognized Funeral at Christ Church Cathedral, George Street. The solemn service, attended by government officials, clergy, and dignitaries, was followed by interment at St. Agnes Anglican Church.
The RBDF extends its heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and congregation of Archbishop Gomez and stands with the nation in honoring a spiritual leader whose faith and influence will be remembered for generations.
