Defence Headquarters, 6 May 2026: RBDF personnel supporting the Let’s Swim Bahamas Programme, were recognized during a Marine of the Quarter Award Ceremony on Wednesday, 6 May 2026, onboard HMBS Coral Harbour.

The marines were recognized for demonstrating outstanding service, dedication, and professionalism as they support the Let’s Swim Bahamas Programme. Let’s Swim Bahamas is a learn-to-swim program that provides free swimming lessons to students at Government Primary Schools. Students are taught the fundamentals of swimming by certified Swim America coaches during school hours using private pools.

Let’s Swim Bahamas aims to reduce water-related accidents by ensuring more Bahamians, especially youth, are confident and capable swimmers. As part of the Defence Force’s broader commitment to community outreach and youth development, RBDF personnel play a key role in offering instruction, mentorship, and operational support throughout the Let’s Swim Bahamas programme.

The Marine of the Quarter Award Ceremony served as an opportunity to highlight RBDF personnel whose work ethic, commitment to duty, and positive contributions stood out among their peers. The awardees recognized were Woman Marine Jessica Williams, Leading Seaman Miguel Mortimer, and Able Seaman Breoshe Poitier, each of whom were commended for exemplary performance within the programme.

Following the presentations, Captain Coral Harbour, Captain Sonia Miller OM, provided words of encouragement and commended the awardees for their continued dedication. She highlighted the importance of maintaining high standards and urged all personnel to continue striving for excellence in the execution of their duties.

Under the leadership of Commander Defence Force, Commodore Floyd Moxey, the RBDF is optimizing excellence by bridging generations and embracing modernization. As such, we congratulate these marines on this well-deserved milestone, and look forward to their continued service, leadership, and dedication to the mission and mandate of the Royal Bahamas Defence Force.
