Defence Headquarters, 19 AUG. ‘24 (RBDF): Members of the Royal Bahamas Defence Force (RBDF) Welfare Department demonstrated their unwavering commitment to community service by extending a helping hand to OPERATION SOLD on Monday, August 19, 2024.
Led by Lieutenant Commander Elvis Bullard, Commanding Officer of the Welfare Department, the team engaged with the young campers and provided haircuts for all the boys in preparation for the upcoming school year.
The summer camp, hosted at Adelaide Primary School in collaboration with A.V. Operation C.H.I.L.D. (Children Having Intelligent Life Dreams), aimed to equip the children with essential knowledge and skills. The campers explored topics such as The Bahamas Government and Patriotism, while also improving their reading, writing, and comprehension skills. Lessons in self-esteem, self-motivation, and self-control were also emphasized.
Given the unique geography of the surrounding community, the children learned about mangroves and their environmental significance. They also acquired practical skills in barbering, hair styling, nail painting, facials, pedicures, and manicures. A key highlight of the camp was a field trip to Clifton Heritage, where the campers gained insight into the historical importance of their community in early Bahamian history.
Mrs. Christine Stubbs, the camp’s organizer and facilitator, expressed her heartfelt thanks to the RBDF for their support, particularly the barbers who contributed their time and skills.
The RBDF Welfare Department’s involvement in OPERATION SOLD underscores the importance of collaboration between military and civilian entities in fostering a compassionate and caring community. This initiative not only highlights the RBDF’s dedication to service beyond their traditional duties but also emphasizes the vital role that summer camps like this play in keeping children engaged in learning during their time away from school.
Under the leadership of Commander Defence Force, Commodore Raymond E. King, the RBDF remains committed to being a responsible corporate citizen by supporting positive outreach initiatives and projects. These efforts aim to strengthen community relations, positively impact individuals, and contribute to the development of thriving communities.
