The Royal Bahamas Defence Force (RBDF) and The Bahamas Military and Maritime Academy, in collaboration with the Rhode Island National Guard (RING) Regional Training Institute, successfully concluded a Subject Matter Expert Exchange (SMEE) at HMBS Coral Harbour on August 23, 2024.

Over the course of five days, the exchange covered various topics, including Introduction to Instructional Design, Electronic Course Design using PowerPoint, Adobe, and Word, Media Policies, Officer Candidate School, Faculty Development Recognition Program, and the Implementation of Rubrics. This collaboration with RING aims to support the RBDF’s vision of becoming a regional leader in interagency and professional development for both officers and enlisted personnel.

The SMEE emphasized curriculum development techniques critical to establishing The Bahamas Military and Maritime Academy. This engagement between RING’s Regional Training Institute personnel, the RBDF Training Department, and RBDF faculty is a significant step toward spearheading the academy’s creation. It provided an opportunity for specialists in course design and refinement to exchange best practices and innovative techniques.

Under the leadership of Commander Defence Force, Commodore Raymond E. King, the RBDF remains committed to transforming the quality and capabilities of its personnel. This commitment, deeply rooted in the pursuit of excellence, is reflected in the professionalism and high-performance standards expected within the Defence Force, all in alignment with the mandate to uphold national security and defense.
