The Royal Bahamas Defence Force (RBDF) Sea Training Department, in partnership with the Bahamas Air Sea Rescue Association (BASRA) and the United States Coast Guard (USCG), hosted a successful community safety and outreach event at Montagu Beach on Saturday, September 6, 2025.
Themed “Safety at Sea & Continuing the Legacy,” the initiative brought families, students, and community members together for an afternoon of demonstrations and interactive activities. The RBDF Band opened the event with a stirring performance that set the tone for the day.
Attendees explored hands-on exhibits where RBDF marines displayed critical maritime safety equipment, including flares, an inflated raft, and lifesaving gear, while teaching proper use in emergencies. The USCG delivered a highlight of the day, with a precision helicopter rescue demonstration, offering the public a close view of lifesaving operations in action.
Founded in 1966, BASRA continues to play a vital role in volunteer-driven search and rescue efforts, working closely with the RBDF and international partners to save lives across Bahamian waters.
Together, BASRA, the RBDF, and the USCG have forged enduring partnerships rooted in joint training, coordinated rescues, and community engagement.
These collaborations reflect a shared commitment to safeguarding lives, enhancing regional preparedness, and building trust between service members, volunteers, and the Bahamian people.
Commodore Floyd Moxey remains dedicated to initiatives that strengthen national security, promote safety at sea, and deepen its connection with the community that the RBDF serves.
