Officials from The Bahamas Red Cross Society and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) paid a courtesy call on Commander Defence Force (Acting), Captain Tellis Bethel this past Friday morning.

The officials consisted of Ms. Caroline Turnquest, Director General of The Bahamas Red Cross, Ms. Ariane Tombet, Head of Regional Delegation of the International Committee of the Red Cross, and Ms. Alexandria Ortiz of the Regional Delegation to CARICOM States of the International Committee of the Red Cross. The meeting was also attended by Captain Phillip Clark, Executive Staff Officer at Defence Headquarters.

During the meeting, both Captain Bethel and Ms. Tombet gave an overview of the roles of their respective organizations, and shared on the services they provide in the area of humanitarian operations. The ICRC also extended an invitation for the Defence Force to engage in relevant training programs offered by the organization.

The ICRC is part of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement along with 190 National Societies including The Bahamas Red Cross, which partners with the Defence Force during times of natural disasters. The ICRC is the oldest and one of the most widely respected organizations in the world.
