The Royal Bahamas Defence Force (RBDF) was represented at the funeral service of the Rt. Honourable Dr. Franklin Wilberforce Walkine, CB, CMG, held on Friday, 16 January 2026 at Zion Baptist Church, east and Shirley street .
Captain Henry Daxon, Executive Staff Officer attended on behalf of the Commander Defence Force to pay final respects to a distinguished public servant, academic, medical professional whose legacy of service to The Commonwealth of The Bahamas remains deeply respected and honoured.
Dr. Walkine entered Parliament in 1989 after winning a by-election and went on to serve the constituency until 1997. Throughout his parliamentary career, he was widely regarded for his intellect, integrity, and unwavering commitment to national development.
In addition to his political service, Dr. Walkine was a distinguished academic and medical professional. He earned a bachelor’s degree of Science from the University of Detroit and is also a graduate from the University of the West Indies School of Medicine where he obtain his medical degree (M.B.B.S.). He later completed postgraduate specialty training at McMaster University School of Medicine in Ontario, Canada. Dr. Walkine was among the first Bahamians to receive a postgraduate degree in Family Medicine.
Of special significance to the Royal Bahamas Defence Force, Dr. Walkine served as a Medical Doctor with the RBDF from 1987 to 1989, providing dedicated medical care and professional support to officers and marines during his tenure.
The Royal Bahamas Defence Force extends sincere condolences to the family, friends, colleagues, and loved ones of the Rt. Honourable Dr. Franklin Wilberforce Walkine, CB, CMG, and joins the nation in celebrating a life of exceptional service, leadership, and contribution to The Bahamas.
