The Royal Bahamas Defence Force (RBDF) proudly recognizes ten marines who successfully completed the Royal Bahamas Police Force Defensive Driving Course during a graduation ceremony held at Police Headquarters, East Street, on Monday, 2 March 2026.

The comprehensive course served as an essential introduction to the core principles designed to safeguard lives on the nation’s roadways. Participants received in-depth instruction centered on the foundational pillars of defensive driving: awareness, reaction, anticipation, and risk management. These principles were reinforced through practical applications, ensuring that marines not only understood the theory but were able to demonstrate safe, disciplined driving practices and techniques.

Throughout the training, marines were reminded of the importance of perpetual vigilance, recognizing potential vehicle hazards, and maintaining heightened situational awareness for pedestrians and surrounding traffic. The anticipation and risk management components emphasized forward-thinking strategies, encouraging drivers to identify possible dangers in advance and take proactive steps to mitigate risks. Reaction training underscored the need for calm, decisive action when confronted with sudden or unexpected challenges on the roadway.

In addition to theoretical instruction, marines were introduced to practical driving techniques aimed at enhancing overall safety and vehicle control. These included proper seatbelt positioning methods, the importance of maintaining both hands on the steering wheel, and a general understanding of braking principles under varying road and weather conditions. Significant emphasis was also placed on maintaining safe vehicle spacing, disciplined convoy movement, and the critical role of lead vehicles in ensuring the secure and efficient passage of principals during official operations.

This partnership initiative with the Royal Bahamas Police Force reflects the RBDF’s commitment to professional development, operational readiness, and the highest standards of safety.

Under the leadership of Commander Defence Force, Commodore Floyd Moxey, the RBDF continues to optimize excellence by bridging generations and embracing modernization. As such, we congratulate the marines on their successful completion of the Defensive Driving Course, a milestone that will undoubtedly contribute to safer driving practices and enhanced effectiveness in the execution of official duties.
