A high-level strategic briefing was convened at Defence Headquarters on 2 July, 2025, to discuss the development roadmap for the establishment of The Bahamas Military and Maritime Academy (BMMA), a visionary initiative aimed at evolving and institutionalizing military and maritime education in The Bahamas.
The session was led by Commander Origin Deleveaux, Commanding Officer of The Bahamas Military and Maritime Academy, who delivered a comprehensive presentation outlining the strategic phases, institutional framework, and next steps toward the Academy’s establishment. This initiative represents a major transformation of the Royal Bahamas Defence Force’s (RBDF) training platform into a modernized, academically grounded, and internationally aligned military education institution.
In attendance were Commander Defence Force, Commodore Floyd Moxey; Deputy Commander Defence Force, Captain Natasha Miller; and Executive Heads of the RBDF’s Command. The session also benefited from key insights and technical input provided by EduLearn Connect, a consultancy firm specializing in institutional development and education systems. Representing EduLearn Connect were Dr. Iva Dahl, Dr. Juliet Reid, Dr. Marie Reid, and Mr. Floyd Mullings, who each offered expertise in curriculum design, education strategy, and global best practices in military-academic integration.
The Bahamas Military and Maritime Academy is envisioned as a national center of excellence for military training, leadership development, and technical proficiency in maritime disciplines. It will serve as a cornerstone of national security readiness, enhancing the professionalization of maritime service in The Bahamas and the region.
This initiative stands not only as a transformative step for the Royal Bahamas Defence Force but also as a foundational development for the nation’s security sector, underscoring the commitment to building a resilient, capable, and future-ready military force.
