The Royal Bahamas Defence Force (RBDF) welcomed members of the Bahamas Fishing Alliance (BFA) to Defence Force Headquarters on 29 May 2025 for a formal courtesy call with Commander Defence Force, Commodore Floyd Moxey. The meeting highlighted the Alliance’s ongoing support in protecting Bahamian waters and preserving the country’s valuable marine resources.
During the visit, BFA representatives reaffirmed their commitment to working with the RBDF in the fight against illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing. They voiced concerns about foreign poachers entering Bahamian waters and causing serious harm to the marine environment. The Alliance also presented a strategic plan aimed at reducing poaching and other illegal activities at sea.
Commodore Moxey thanked the BFA for its partnership and emphasized the Defence Force’s continued readiness to collaborate on marine protection efforts. He also stressed the importance of maintaining strong relationships with the fishing community to support national security and responsible resource management.
The RBDF remains committed to building effective partnerships with national stakeholders. Efforts like this help strengthen the Defence Force’s mission to defend Bahamian territory and promote the sustainable use of its marine environment.
