The Bahamas National Youth Guard (NYG) successfully concluded a 3-day Leadership Symposium and Refresher Training from 17–19 July 2025 at the National Training Agency (NTA), Gladstone Road.
The training brought together young leaders from Cohorts 1 through 4, representing islands including Abaco, Andros, Cat Island, Eleuthera, Grand Bahama, Great Harbour Cay, and New Providence. Over the three days, participants engaged in a series of hands-on sessions focused on building leadership skills and reinforcing the core values of service, discipline, and national responsibility.
The event also focused on sharpening communication, teamwork, and readiness. Presentations were led by Mr. Keno McCartney of Colina, Acting Commander Delvonne Duncombe, and experienced Defence Force facilitators, who shared practical insights and guidance.
Participants explored key topics such as effective leadership, financial literacy, and disaster response, which all aligned with the mission of the National Youth Guard to help build a more resilient Bahamas by empowering young people and strengthening communities.
A major component of the program was the Refresher Training, which included reintroductions to the NYG curriculum and an introduction to Wildfire Response. This ensured Guards remain up-to-date on protocols, safety procedures, and the expectations of the program.
The guiding values of the Youth Guard – Service, Preparedness, and Response – remain at the forefront of all training efforts. The commitment and energy shown by the participants reflect the strength of this initiative.
