The Royal Bahamas Defence Force (RBDF) held a its Safeboat Dedication Ceremony on Friday, 30 May 2025, at the Harbour Patrol Unit to formally welcome newly acquired defence vessels into its fleet. This event marks a significant milestone in bolstering The Bahamas’ maritime security capabilities and advancing the nation’s efforts to safeguard its territorial waters.
The four (4) newly acquired vessels to the RBDF fleet are a part of a broader initiative, reflecting the government’s steadfast commitment to enhancing national defence infrastructure.
These acquisitions aim to strengthen maritime surveillance, improve response capabilities during natural disasters, and increase efforts to counter illegal activities such as drug trafficking and poaching in Bahamian waters.
In attendance at the ceremony were the Acting Prime Minister, the Hon. Glenys Hanna-Martin, Minister of National Security, the Hon. Wayne R. Munroe, K.C., M.P.; Commander Defence Force, Commodore Floyd Moxey, senior officers of the RBDF and other high-ranking government officials.
Minister Munroe delivered remarks emphasizing the importance of strategic investments in maritime law enforcement and reaffirmed the government’s resolve to support the Defence Force in its mission to protect national sovereignty.
The Acting Prime Minister, Hon. Glenys Hanna-Martin, also addressed attendees, commending the Royal Bahamas Defence Force for its unwavering dedication to national security. She expressed gratitude for the RBDF’s role in ensuring the safety of the Bahamian people, allowing civilians to go about their daily lives with confidence and peace of mind.
