The Royal Bahamas Defence Force (RBDF) bid a solemn farewell to the late Senior Lieutenant Elwood Simms during a funeral service.

The Royal Bahamas Defence Force (RBDF) bid a solemn farewell to the late Senior Lieutenant Elwood Simms during a funeral service held on Thursday, 15 May 2025, at the Anglican Church of The Epiphany, followed by interment at St. Matthew’s Church Cemetery. The service marked the end of a distinguished 25-year military career and the passing of a beloved husband, father, and colleague.

Commander Defence Force, Commodore Floyd Moxey, reflected on the magnitude of the loss.

“We have lost a man of conviction, work ethic, and unshakable character. He never asked for praise, but his example speaks volumes. He was not just an engineer; he was a builder of systems, a mentor of men, and an enforcer of standards.”

The Acting Minister of National Security, The Hon. Mario Bowleg also offered heartfelt condolences, recognizing Simms’ enduring contribution.

“Senior Lieutenant Simms did not pursue comfort, he chose service. He did not seek attention; he chose responsibility. His steady contributions strengthened the very foundation of the Royal Bahamas Defence Force.”

The RBDF Executive Command Team, Officers and Marines, RBDF Veterans Association, Members of Parliament, senior government officials, and former Commodores Clifford Scavella, Tellis Bethel, and Raymond King were all present in tribute.

The Royal Bahamas Defence Force extends deepest condolences to the family of Senior Lieutenant Simms. His mission is complete, but his legacy of honour and excellence will continue to guide those who serve.
