Defence Headquarters, 22 Aug. ‘23 (RBDF): Commander Defence Force Commodore Raymond King accompanied by his wife retired Force Chief Petty Officer Fredrika King attended the official closing ceremony for the Niccolo P. Small Meteorology Cadet Corp Programme at The Margaritaville Resort on August 22, 2023.
The program which was officially launched back on June 12, 2023 sought to engage, educate, and mentor young people about the world of meteorology. Led by course instructor Mr. Bail Dean the participants gained hands-on experience amongst the nation’s best and brightest meteorologists to successfully complete the program.
During his keynote address, Prime Minister The Hon. Philip E. Davis noted how immensely proud he is to see young people so intrigued and fascinated about the world of meteorology and science. He also noted that as rapid climate change plagues small island nations such as ours, it is imperative that we have more hands on deck to help find new solutions and create new technological advancements to help enhance and protect our survival and sustainment. Also in attendance were Minister Of Transport and Housing, The. Hon. Jobeth Coelby Davis, Minister of State in The Ministry of Education, The Hon. Zane Lightbourne, Acting Permanent Secretary in The Ministry of Transport and Housing, Mrs. Gaynell Rolle, Acting Director of Department of Meteorology, Mr. Jeffrey Simmons.
