Fifty (50) Jamaican Defence Force (JDF) troops arrived late Saturday night in Nassau aboard a Canadian C130 military aircraft to assist in the hurricane relief efforts.
The contingent, led by Major Domain Bromley, arrived at 11:00 pm. The aircraft had initially planned direct to Marsh Harbour Abaco but the pilots determined that the aircraft was too heavily loaded for the Marsh Harbour runway.
On hand to greet the men were Minister of National Security, the Honorable Marvin Dames, who greeted the men and expressed his gratitude on behalf of The Bahamas government, and the Comander Defence Force, Commodore Tellis Bethel.
After being accommodated for the night at Coral Harbour Base, the men will fly into Abaco on Sunday. They will be based at the Customs office at the airport in Marsh Harbour.
The remainder of the troops will arrive in Nassau over the next two days and will be flown to Abaco.
