Twenty (20) participants from the Royal Bahamas Defence Force (RBDF) recently participated in a Common Faculty Development subject-matter expert exchange (SMEE) onboard HMBS Coral Harbour from 29 January – 02 February 2024.

The 5-day exchange was facilitated by United States Northern Command (USNORTHCOM) and its lead instructors were Staff Sergeants David Grillo, Sean Corley and Timothy Baker of the Rhode Island National Guard’s Regional Training Institute (RTI). It also assists in realizing Commander Defence Force’s vision to provide more training through RBDF and in setting up the RBDF Military and Maritime Academy.

The sessions were focused on providing essential insight and skills needed to prepare new faculty to teach and train in an adult learning environment. More specifically, it introduced the participants to instructor roles and responsibilities, teaching and learning models, professional and ethical requirements, classroom management techniques, processes for building learning objectives, developing lesson plans, and characteristics of effective communication. The training included practical exercises which culminated in a final assessment and presentation to RBDF leadership and RTI representatives.

Commander Defence Force, Commodore Raymond E. King, is committed to the ongoing development of RBDF personnel. This commitment is rooted in his desire to cultivate a High-Performance Workforce that empowers its personnel to achieve excellence in performance and leadership.
