Nine (9) Cuban migrants were taken into custody Sunday morning after they were apprehended 2.6 nm off of Gun Cay, Bimini following combined efforts by members of the Royal Bahamas Defence Force and local fishermen. The Defence Force Operations Department received reports from a Bahamian fishing vessel “Donatella”, which indicated that they had collected the Cuban migrants off of Anguilla Cay on Friday 13 January. A safe boat coxswained by Chief Petty Officer Doyle Johnson was dispatched from Bimini to investigate. On arrival to the area, the officers located the vessel “Donatella” which was anchored off the coast of Bimini. The migrants were subsequently taken into Bimini and turned over to Immigration officials for further investigation.
