On Friday 25 February 2022 The Royal Bahamas Defence Force received information from the Cuban Border Guard referencing possible migrant migration. Upon receipt of the information The Royal Bahamas Defence Force made contact with the United States Coast Guard in efforts to aid in the apprehension of the numerous reported vessels. Due to the combined efforts of local fishermen, The United States Coast Guard, Cuban Border Patrol and The Royal Bahamas Defence Force, one hundred and seventy seven (177) migrants were apprehended approximately sixty (60) nautical miles off Andros on February 27, 2022. All apprehended migrants are in transit to Nassau, Bahamas to be handed over to The Bahamas Department of Immigration and The Royal Bahamas Police Force respectively. The Defence Force remains poised to uphold its’ mandate and ensure the territorial safety on the Commonwealth of The Bahamas.
