The Royal Bahamas Defence Force along with representatives from the National Emergency and Management Agency (NEMA) recently conducted a one-week training workshop.
Conducted at HMBS CORAL HARBOUR BASE NORTH from September 14-18th 2020, this training session allowed trained personnel from both organizations to become familiarized in the assembling and disassembling of tents which can be used in the event of a hurricane or a natural disaster. RBDF Marines who specialize in areas such as cooks, plumbing and electrical engineering were also in attendance.
A maintenance check was carried out on 40 tents, each of which is fully equipped with air condition, a shower, and bathroom and kitchen facilities.
Commander Sonia Miller, the RBDF’s Commanding Officer for Disaster Risk Management Unit said this equipment will be an excellent asset for both organizations to aid in disaster response.
These modular shelters, along with an assortment of medical equipment, and construction materials were presented to the Ministry for Disaster Preparedness, Management, and Reconstruction during a brief ceremony on September 18.
