Ninety-five (95) suspected Haitian migrants were apprehended by Her Majesty’s Bahamian Ship (HMBS) Leon Livingston Smith under the command of Senior Lieutenant Ricardo McQueen on Wednesday, 3 August 2022.While on routine patrol, HMBS Livington Smith intercepted a thirty-foot wooden sailing vessel with one outboard engine, 19 nautical miles off of Long Island. Upon further inspection, the vessel was found to have onboard ninety-five (95) migrants consisting of nineteen (19) females and seventy-two (72) males, all of whom appeared to be in good health.The vessel and migrants will be transported to Coral Harbour today where they would be handed over to the relevant authorities for further processing. This recent apprehension brings the total number of Haitian migrants intercepted for the year in Bahamian waters to approximately five hundred.The Commander Defence Force has set forth strategic plans in efforts to ward off any potential threat of irregular migration. The Royal Bahamas Defence Force continues to remain vigilant in its pursuit to defend the territorial integrity of The Bahamas.
