Defence Headquarters, 6 NOV. ‘21 (RBDF): A possible human smuggling operation was averted early in the morning on Friday 5 November by members of the Royal Bahamas Defence Force, in the western area of the capital.

After being alerted by the RBDF Operations Command Center of suspicious activity in the area of Crystal Cay shortly after midnight, the RBDF Safeboat, coxswained by Chief Petty Officer Winston Beckles, was dispatched to the area to investigate. After arriving to the designated area, they discovered a 50-ft. Cabin Cruiser “My Weakness” at the scene. The suspects detected RBDF assets and evaded capture leaving the vessel’s engine running. Resultantly, the vessel was taken to Coral Harbour Base where further investigations are being conducted.  A thorough search of the craft and the surrounding area was conducted by the Marines and the K9 unit, and resulted in no individuals being found on scene. The Royal Bahamas Police Force however confirmed the capture of fourteen migrants, nine males and five females in the area of the scene where the vessel was discovered. Inquiries are ongoing in this matter.

The Royal Bahamas Defence Force remains committed and dedicated to its mandate in guarding and protecting the territorial waters of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas.
