A suspected smuggling operation was thwarted by the Royal Bahamas Defence Force on Thursday evening in Bimini when a total of 18 individuals were intercepted while attempting to leave the island.

While on routine patrol, a Defence Force Patrol vessel coxswained by Chief Petty Officer Ricardo Miller spotted a white cabin cruiser motor vessel exiting Bimini Marina with occupants onboard around 6:00 pm.

A routine search of the vessel uncovered 8 Haitian males, 5 Haitian females, 1 Jamaican, and 4 Bahamians on board. The occupants and vessel were subsequently turned over to Immigration Officials in Bimini for further processing and investigation.

The Royal Bahamas Defence Force remains committed to protecting the territorial integrity of The Bahamas through maintaining a continued presence in keeping our borders secured through partnerships with local and international agencies.
