Defence Headquarters, 9 June ‘23 (RBDF): The RBDF is currently conducting a search and rescue operation in waters off Exuma. Shortly before 12:00 pm, the Royal Bahamas Defence Force received information from the Aircraft Accident Investigation Authority (AAIA) about a plane crash 30NM Northwest off Devil’s Point, Exuma.
Upon receiving the information, RBDF surface asset, HMBS Bahamas, was dispatched and is conducting search and rescue operations. Additionally, aerial assistance from the US Coast Guard aircraft and search and rescue assistance from RBPF Maritime Unit occurred. The US Coast Guard deployed (3) three air assets to the area to assist with search and rescue. RBDF aircraft is expected to assist with the search pending favorable weather conditions. Possible debris from the downed aircraft such as a seat, flotation devices and an air cylinder have been recovered.
