Commander Defence Force Commodore Dr. Raymond King attended CABSEC & SAMSEC 22 on November 8-10 in Doral Florida. (CABSEC), The Caribbean Basin Maritime Security and Coastal Surveillance conference’s aim is to counter transnational criminal organizations through enhanced maritime security and coastal surveillance. (SAMSEC) is dedicated to integrated approaches to land and maritime border management in South America. The main objectives of the summit were to provide opportunities for networking and information exchange and to discuss security capacity building and structures of cooperation within the region and sub-regions. The summit attendees: Commander Defence Force, Commodore Raymond King accompanied by the Aide de Camp, Lieutenant Commander Delvonne Duncombe, and the Senior Enlisted Representative, Force Chief Petty Officer Vaughn Ferguson. The primary audience included Chiefs of Defence Staff from the Caribbean nations and Latin America and the discussion was centered on transnational threats faced by regional defence and security leaders and the need for regional mechanisms to confront Transnational Criminal Organizations. During his contribution, Commodore King highlighted the Transnational Threats to The Bahamas that included a general overview of the Role and Functions of the RBDF, its Mission and Mandate, Defence and Security Domain, Challenges as well as his Maritime Security Plan and Operation Strategy with the aim of deterring, denying and detaining TCN activities. The key benefits of the CABSEC forums include an improved understanding of procurement programmes and emerging requirements, contribution to a strategic summit, with a place at the top table with leaders drawn from across Latin America and the Caribbean to discuss how to improve maritime domain awareness and information sharing, to achieve interoperability for combined operations, the enhancement of situational awareness by gaining a better understanding of scalable tactical control systems, advanced sensor systems, and combat management system modernization and to meet with all of the higher naval commands of the region and OEMs in one place to gain insights on emerging RFIs and tenders. With the security environment becoming increasingly dynamic, causing heavier demands on militaries and other law enforcement agencies to become more flexible, the Defence Force is poised to enhance its security posture.
