The Bahamas National Unmanned Systems (BAHNUS) Academy concluded its second training initiative, spearheaded by the Royal Bahamas Defence Force (RBDF) in conjunction with representatives from Swift Tactical Systems (STS) on Wednesday, February 8, 2023, at HMBS Coral Harbour’s Training Auditorium. Participants from collaborating law enforcement agencies underwent a three-month training module by RBDF and STS instructors, certifying them as 021 aircraft operators. The curriculum focused on principles of flight, basic weather, radio and navigation with a series of simulated and live flight instruction. Assistant Superintendent Carlos Mitchell of the Royal Bahamas Police Force received recognition for top performance during the course’s duration. The 021 model is a vertical take-off and landing Unmanned Aerial Vehicle that will assist in roles of mid-range coastal patrols, Intelligence Surveillance and Reconnaissance Support for Law Enforcement Operations and Maritime Domain Awareness throughout the Bahamas. Commander Defence Force, Commodore Raymond King brought brief remarks during the graduation ceremony where he acknowledged the advantages of maintaining a unified approach through regional cooperation in defence of the nation. He also noted the continuing success of the program and the achievement of participants, which he attributed to the combined efforts of agency leaders.Also in attendance was Deputy Commander Defence Force, Captain Shonedel Pinder; Director of BAHNUS, Captain Carlon Bethel; Deputy Director of BAHNUS, Commander Clinton Johnson; Force Chaplain, Apostle Raymond Wells and representatives from various law enforcement agencies. As part of the Commander Defence Force’s National Maritime Security Strategy, this training exercise will help to assist partnering law enforcement agencies achieve increased operation capacities to aid in the execution of daily operations.
