Fellow Bahamians, and especially the remarkable women of the Royal Bahamas Defence Force. On this International Women’s Day, which falls on March 8th every year, I want to extend my personal congratulations and deepest respect to each and every one of you.
This day celebrates and honors the achievements of women around the world, and your contributions to the RBDF deeply resonate with this theme. Your bravery, dedication, and professionalism are an inspiration to all.
From the 17 trailblazers of Women Entry One who shattered barriers in 1985, to the 320 strong contingent serving with distinction today, you have proven that there are no limits to what you can achieve. You lead from the front lines, excel in vital support roles, and consistently pave the way for future generations.
A warm welcome to the newest members of Women Entry 30, who proudly enlisted on February 17th of this year, carrying on the legacy of those brave pioneers.
I am firmly committed, as your Commodore, to fostering an environment where gender equality is not just valued, but actively championed. Our Gender Optimization Policy, which ensures a gender perspective is integrated into administration, training, and operational planning, is a key part of this commitment. This policy, along with our support for the Women, Peace, and Security agenda, are testaments to our dedication to creating an inclusive and empowered environment.
I believe that diversity empowers us. By harnessing the unique strengths and perspectives of all our personnel, we can achieve even greater things.
Today, and every day, I am incredibly proud to stand beside you. Your courage, intelligence, and dedication serve as a constant source of inspiration for not only myself but the entire nation.
