Migrant Landfall & Apprehension

A joint operation between the Royal Bahamas Defence Force, Royal Bahamas Police, Department of Immigration and Operation Bahamas Turks & Caicos (OPBAT) resulted in the apprehension of 18 Haitian migrants inclusive of 14 males and 4 females, after a local reported a possible landing near South East Point Inagua.An RBDF surface asset made an attempt to visit the area however, returned due to adverse weather conditions. RBDF and RBPF were transported to the area onboard US Coast Guard Helicopter to retrieve the migrants who appeared to be in good health. The migrants are currently at the local police station and are being processed by Immigration Officers.It is the intent of Commodore Raymond E. King through Operational Decentralization, to work more closely with local law enforcement agencies and regional partners through joint operations as well as information sharing as a force multiplier to address current and potential challenges. The RBDF remains committed to guarding our heritage.
