This significant event, hosted by the Japan Coast Guard in conjunction with the Nippon Foundation, underscored the pressing need for heightened cooperation among coast guard authorities amidst the escalating environmental challenges affecting our oceans on a global scale. Japan Coast Guard Commandant Shohei Ishii emphasized this in his opening address, stating, “In light of the expanding threats and damages to the oceans due to environmental shifts, the cooperation and dialogue among coast guard authorities must be reinforced more than ever.”
