RBDF Dispatched to Investigate Possible Sunken Vessel

On the heels of a recent migrant apprehension, the Royal Bahamas Defence Force Operation Command Center (OCC) received Intel of a possible sunken Haitian Sailing Freighter near Elbow Cay, Cay Sal Banks.At approximately 12:00 p.m. yesterday afternoon, Operation Bahamas Turks and Caicos (OPBAT) reported a possible sunken vessel 8.4 nm North of Elbow Cay, Cay Sal Banks. Upon further investigation, one hundred (100) plus migrants were sighted on Elbow Cay. His Majesty’s Bahamian Ship (HMBS) Bahamas, which was on routine in the area, was dispatched to assist United States Coast Guard Cutter (USCGC) William Flores who is presently on scene. His Majesty’s Bahamian Ship Bahamas is scheduled to arrive this morning.
