Forty-three (43) Marines from various sections of the Royal Bahamas Defence Force (RBDF) recently participated in Operation Event Horizon, conducted from 15 to 21 January 2024, in Port Antonio, Jamaica.
Led by Commander Nevada Bain, Operation Event Horizon aimed to evaluate and enhance the RBDF’s capabilities in disaster response and humanitarian assistance. The exercise simulated realistic disaster scenarios, serving as a platform to assess command and control structures, logistical coordination, communication efficiency, and community engagement strategies.
Throughout the operation, adaptability, professionalism, and teamwork were the defining characteristics of the RBDF’s performance, particularly in collaboration with the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF). Petty Officer Karia Smith emphasized the mission’s success and the impressive demonstration of the teams’ capabilities and cohesiveness, even in the face of challenges.
Operation Event Horizon highlighted the RBDF’s collective capacity for adaptation and professionalism in addressing diverse challenges. In response to the insights gained, targeted recommendations have been formulated to refine operational efficiency and enhance readiness for future missions.

Through joint operations and proactive information sharing, these strategic alliances serve as force multipliers, effectively addressing both existing and potential challenges.
