An inter-house debate competition was hosted by the Royal Bahamas Defence Force Training Department on Wednesday, November 30 in the Training Auditorium at HMBS Coral Harbour Base.The four-round debate was comprised of officer candidates who presented on the topic “The Pros and Cons of Decentralization”. Distinguished Toastmasters Euvunka Paul and Donovan Rolle and Toast Masters Rosena Duncanson and Yvette Barr were guest judges at the event.Both candidate teams presented convincing arguments to the panel of judges, however the overall winner of the debate was team “Cons,” who highlighted the challenges associated with decentralization in relation to family-life, financial obligations, and operational assets. Top presenters for the debate were Leading Woman Marine Michelle Farrington of the “Cons” team and Able Seaman Jamon King of the “Pros” team, who kept the judges engaged with their presentations and stage presence.Also in attendance was Captain Coral Harbour, Captain Glenn McPhee, Base Executive Officer, Commander Origin Deleveaux, Training Officer, Commander Valentino Rolle, Course Design Officer, Sub Lieutenant Preston Major, Warrant Officers, Senior Rates and Junior Rates.The research conducted in this exercise will assist the Commander Defence Force, Commodore Raymond King and his Executive team in the implementation of policies geared towards decentralization and overall sustainment of the Royal Bahamas Defence Force.(RBDF photos by Marine Seaman Rickey Sealy)
