The Royal Bahamas Defence Force (RBDF) welcomed nineteen (19) recruits to its ranks as reserves during a Passing Out Parade Ceremony held at the HMBS Coral Harbour on April 29, 2024.
The group successfully completed eight (8) weeks of arduous basic military training that provided professional disciplines in Navigation, Seamanship, Weapons Handling, Defence Act and Regulations, Military Martial Arts, Survival, Firefighting and Communications.
The Honourable Wayne Munroe K.C, Minister of National Security, was in attendance and delivered the keynote speech. In his address to the newest squad of Marines, Minister Munroe reminded them that they have chosen a life of sacrifice and that the road ahead would be lined with difficult tasks. He also expressed his confidence in them understanding the gravity of their decision in choosing a life dedicated to safeguarding our nation.
He encouraged them to remain disciplined in both their professional and private lives. He also beckoned to them to become the marines they could be while committing to serving and securing the citizens of The Bahamas.
Reserve Marine Seaman Sean Knowles was awarded as the Best Male Recruit in training while Reserve Woman Marine Sheryl Bowleg was awarded as the Best Female Recruit in the entry. The atmosphere at the ceremony was an encouraging one with family and friends cheering on proudly to see their loved ones and share in their accomplishment.
In attendance were dignitaries and invited guests including Minister of Youth Sports and Culture, the Honourable Mario Bowleg, Commander Defence Force (Acting), Captain Shonedel Pinder, the RBDF Executive Command Team, family, friends, and other loved ones who came to show their support.
Under Commodore Raymond E. King’s leadership, the development of the Defence Force continues through strategic recruitment of human capital, professional training, and resource acquisition.
