U.S. A-10 Military Craft in the Bahamas

On February 16, a formation of U.S.A-10 military aircraft made an approved stop in Nassau to refuel en route to a training exercise. One aircraft experienced a maintenance issue and remained in Nassau for repairs with its counterpart, as A-10 pilots always fly in pairs. The aircraft carried three inert training missiles, one training sensor, and two cargo pods containing maintenance equipment. There were no live munitions or flares on the aircraft. On February 18, the two A-10s returned to a U.S. military base for further repairs. As close allies linked by democratic principles, The Bahamas and the United States share a long history of security cooperation. As a result, U.S. military and law enforcement aircraft regularly request permission to refuel in The Bahamas. More broadly, security cooperation allows allied nations to participate in the mutual defense of each other’s territories, and paves the way for military exchange programs, equipment donations, and joint military exercises.
