Commander Defence Force, Commodore Raymond King, accompanied by Aide-de-Camp, Lieutenant Commander Samantha Hart, and Command Warrant Officer Remone Storr, attended the State Recognized Funeral of the late Diocesan Bishop Ellis J. Farrington, which was held at Transformation Ministries International on Thursday, 27 October 2022. Bishop Ellis J. Farrington was born on September 8th, 1934, in the quaint settlement of Cargill Creek, Andros to Victoria and Robert J. Farrington. Considered a “Quiet Storm” by loved ones, Bishop Farrington was a man that rose from humble beginnings to become a Freedom Fighter, Stalwart of the Christian Faith, and a Community Activist. In addition to his many achievements, he was Chairman of the Andros District for over 48 years; serving as overseer of five (5) churches on the island. He also was a member of the Bahamas Christian Council, where he served as President of the Andros Christian Council. Amongst the attendees were The Hon. Phillip E. Davis KC, M.P., Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of the Bahamas; Senior Judicial Members; Members of the Cabinet; Former Governor General, Dame Marguerite Pindling; Former Prime Minister, Perry G. Christie; Members of the House of Assembly and the Senate; Senior Government Officials; Law Enforcement Heads; and Presidents and Heads of Denominations of The Bahamas Christian Council.In remarks by the Prime Minister, Bishop Farrington was described as a legend; a humble man who led a life of exemplary citizenship and touched the lives of many in a positive way. He also acknowledged his contribution to youth development through his ministry and mentorship and highlighted that his enthusiastic spirit was one that should be cultivated and transplanted across the Bahamas. The Hon. Michael Pintard, Leader of the Official Opposition, and members of the clergy also shared experiences with the bishop and gave their heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family. After the recession of the body by the Color Guard, a brief flag and medal presentation ceremony was held on the grounds of church. Bishop Farrington was bestowed the Honor of Merit, an award given for service in religion and community leadership. His interment will take place in Cargill Creek Public Cemetery, Cargill Creek, Andros on Saturday, October 29th, 2022.The Commander Defence Force, Commodore Raymond King extends condolences to the family of the deceased on behalf of the Officers, Warrant Officers, and Marines of the Royal Bahamas Defence Force, as the country mourns the loss of an Androsian giant who dedicated his life to serving God, his family, and his country.
