Former Defence Force Marine, Mr. Herbert Marshall, recently paid a courtesy call on the Commander Defence Force, Commodore Dr. Raymond King on July 20th, 2021, at Defence Headquarters, John F. Kennedy Drive.
In collaboration with the RBDF Veteran’s Affairs Office and the RBDF Veteran’s Association (RBDFVA), and consistent with the Royal Bahamas Defence Force’s strategic objective of strengthening and improving the lives of the Veterans and Retirees, Mr. Marshall used the opportunity to give back to an organization which was instrumental in his success as an entrepreneur.
During the visit, the former Leading Seaman defined what it meant to be your “brother’s keeper”, as he expressed with Commodore King, his desire to assist past serving members of the organization. The CEO of Marshall Group of Companies, both he, and his wife Karen, made a monetary presentation to the RBDFVA, led by President Chief Petty Officer Harold Bosfield, and also a memento to Commodore King.
Also, in attendance were Captain Shonedel Pinder, Deputy Commander Defence Force, Lieutenant Commander Judy McDonald, RBDF Veterans Affairs Officer, and board members of the RBDFVA. This Association is comprised of former Defence Force personnel who work in conjunction with the RBDF Veteran’s Affairs Office to carry out the Commander Defence Force’s intent to improve the quality of life for retirees and veterans of the Royal Bahamas Defence Force.
Herbert Marshall joined the Defence Force as a member of Entry 26 in 1990, and he spent 18 years as a Marine, before resigning in 2008 to undertake other business ventures. In receiving the donations, Commodore King thanked Mr. Marshall for his contributions and assured him that his small gesture will go a long way in maintaining a Force capable of guarding the territorial waters of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas.
