Based on information and intelligence sharing between the Royal Bahamas Defence Force (RBDF), the United States Coast Guard (USCG), and Cuban Border Patrol, the Royal Bahamas Defence Force intercepted a vessel in Bahamian waters carrying approximately two hundred fifteen (215) migrants on 23 March 2022.Her Majesty’s Bahamian Ship (HMBS) Kamalamee, under the command of Lieutenant Owen Sands and while on routine patrol, was directed to the area west of Andros, thirty-one point seven (31.7) nautical miles (NM) off of Orange Cay to intercept the confirmed fifty-five (55) foot Haitian sloop.After arriving at the site, further investigations revealed that the vessel contained some two hundred fifteen (215) migrants consisting of forty-nine (49) females and one hundred sixty-six (166) males on board, all of whom were apprehended and appeared to be in good health.HMBS Kamalamee with the assistance of HMBS Madeira transported the vessel and all migrants to the Defence Force’s Coral Harbour Base, where they would be handed over to the relevant authorities for further processing.
