Coral Harbour Base, 03 JUL. ‘20 (RBDF): An ongoing search for a missing boater is being conducted by members of the Royal Bahamas Defence Force, Royal Bahamas Police Marine Division and a United States Coast Guard helicopter, after an American registered vessel ran aground a mile and a half of South Bimini early this morning.
After receiving reports that a vessel was disabled south of Bimini, HMBS L.L. SMITH under the command of Senior Lieutenant Alexis Brown, was dispatched to the area to investigate. They arrived on scene at 1:20 am, to find a 34-ft vessel “Stand Firm” with 1 male and 1 female aboard suffering from minor injuries. Further investigation revealed that 2 other individuals were presumably thrown from the vessel and are presumed missing.
The injured individuals were taken aboard the Defence Force vessel and transported to the local hospital in north Bimini. A search of the surrounding area was carried out and at about 08:30 this morning, the crew of HMBS L.L. SMITH discovered a male body on Turtle Cay, south of south Bimini. A search for the remaining individual is ongoing.
The Royal Bahamas Defence remains committed to protecting the territorial integrity of the Commonwealth of the The Bahamas.
