United States Assistant Secretary of State for the Western Hemisphere Brian A. Nichols along with Charge D’ Affairs Usha Pitts, CAR Director Nan Fife, Captain Gregg Gellman, and other delegated members paid a courtesy call and toured the Royal Bahamas Defence Force Base, Tuesday 24 May 2022. Deputy Commander Defence Force, Captain Shonedel Pinder hosted the tour on behalf of Commander Defence Force, Commodore Raymond E. King, along with several key executive officers. The tour included a visit to the HMBS Flamingo Memorial, a visit to the Maritime Surveillance Systems radar that was donated by the United States, a visit to the Operations Command Center, a visit to a RBDF vessel, and a tour on a safe boat that was donated by the United States. During the tour, the US Delegation was given a brief on communications equipment and maritime domain awareness data integration and the US donated resources to the Defence Force as part of the regional security effort. Discussions on ongoing joint training exchanges were had along with an in-harbour demonstration of a maritime capsize drill was executed and viewed from Her Majesty’s Bahamian Ship Bahamas. This courtesy call provided an opportunity for the RBDF to discuss security cooperation efforts and matters of mutual interest between the partner nations.
